Butterfly World is a tropical garden in a 1000 square meter green house where exotic butterflies can fly freely.
Up to 800 butterfly pupae are imported per week all year round. They come from countries such as Costa Rica, Philippines, Malaysia and China.
The various notice boards placed in the greenhouse, really gives a lot of interesting information regarding butterflies.
The Butterflies are most active on a sunny day. (It is also very humid then - so take something to drink)
On overcast days however, you can see (and photograph) the resting butterflies up close.
The outdoor garden hosts a play area, a meerkat enclosure and free range ducks, chickens and goats, waiting to be fed. Seeds and fodder can be bought at the gift shop.
The Martin Filmer Spider Room displays indigenous and exotic spiders and scorpions. There is also an iguana cage showing them off in a tropical environment.
Yes you can touch this beauty (an iguana).
The gift shop has butterfly related items for sale and the Jungle Leaf Café provides light meals and refreshments
Editorial Comment:
This is one of my favourite places to visit and I've even been there once without taking my children. This
somewhere where you can just sit and relax with natural beauty around
you.
Dit is nou regtig 'n plek waar ek lekker rustig kan wees. Waar
anders sien jy so baie skoenlappers bymekaar? Dit laat my sommer lus
raak om 'n skoenlapper versamelaar te raak!
Gaan sit op een van die bankies en kyk net.
