City Sightseeing hop-on hop-off tours are an extremely entertaining and educational way of experiencing Cape Town in a short space of time.
You get a choice of two routes (Red and Blue routes) and can get on and off as many times as you want to.
As the buses run on a regular schedule, you can plan your stops so as to see as many sights as possible. Tickets are available for the whole day.
On the trip you also have a choice of 16 languages from the multi-language commentary system. Even as a born and bred Capetonian, I was impressed with both the content and the manner of the commentary.
(Tip - Do not put your earphones on your ears when you plug them in as it seams like a standing joke to increase the volume levels to max when you leave the bus.
I was caught out and my ears is still singing. :-)
The Routes
1. The Red City Tour with stops at:
Two Oceans Aquarium, The Clock Tower, Cape Town International Conference Centre, Cape Town Tourism Centre, St Georges Cathedral, The SA Museum, Mount Nelson Hotel, SA Jewish Museum, District Six Museum, Castle of Good Hope, Gold Museum, Jewel Africa, Table Mountain Cableway, Camps Bay, President Hotel, Sea Point and Winchester Mansions Hotel.
All stops have timetables like this and you will notice that the buses run quite regular.
2. The Blue Mini Peninsula Tour with stops at:
Two Oceans Aquarium, The Clock Tower, Cape Town International Conference Centre, Cape Town Tourism Centre, Mount Nelson Hotel, Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, World of Birds, Imizamo Yethu, Mariners Wharf, Camps Bay, President Hotel, Sea Point and Winchester Mansions Hotel.
Buses are well marked to indicate the route.
Blue Route add on: Wine Tour of Constantia Valley
The Wine Tour Bus is a FREE extension on the Blue Mini Peninsula Tour.
The tour trip takes you to three wine stops: Beau Constantia Wine Estate, Groot Constantia Wine Estate and Eagles' Nest Wine Farm. Tasting fees apply and you have to get on another bus at the Constantia Nek stop.
3. Canal Cruise
City Sightseeing also offers a Canal Cruise from the Waterfront to the Cape Town International Conference Centre (CTICC).
The cruise includes a trip through the V&A Waterfront's canal and tells you more about the rich and famous that own apartments along this canal and about the significance of this canal.

Various combination tickets are also available where the bus trip is combined with either a helicopter or a boat trip, or a wine tasting.
5. The Night Tour
The Night Tour is available daily from Stop 1, the City Sightseeing Kiosk, and departs at 6pm sharp.
The Bus snakes around the Atlantic Coastline, providing views of the suburbs of Sea Point, Clifton and Camps Bay and will then, depending on the weather, visit either the summit of Signal Hill or the lower Cableway station.
